Ms.
Farzana Raja, Member National Assembly of Pakistan is Chairperson
of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) with the status of
Federal Minister. Ms. Raja is Vice President of the Young
Parliamentarians Forum of the 13th National Assembly in Pakistan.
She is also an active member of the Women Parliamentary Caucus of
the National Assembly of Pakistan; working beyond party lines for
the uplift of Pakistani women.
Ms.
Farzana Raja has a long affiliation with the Pakistan Peoples
Party and has been at the forefront for the policy making frame
work of the Party's struggle for
democracy and rights of the under privileged sections of the
society. Ms. Raja has been actively participating in the policy
formulation work of the Party, especially in the areas of women
empowerment, foreign policy and media relations. Also lived in
the United States and was member of the Party's Central Executive
Committee, USA. Serving relevant parliamentary committees in the affairs of
the country. She was member of the provincial assembly of
Punjab from 2002 – 2007.
Ms.
Raja is an eloquent speaker and has spoken at various conferences
/ seminars organized by National and International institutions.
She also has a especial interest in writing articles / columns on
diverse topics and has contributed for more than 10 years in
leading English & Urdu newspapers of Pakistan and Middle east.
In
view of her long-lasting commitment to the poor and vulnerable
sections of society and her desire to work for their improvement
she was appointed as Chairperson Benazir Income Support Programme
in 2008. As Chairperson of the BISP, she has worked to ensure
transparency in the disbursement of cash grants, other benefits and has made
colossal efforts to reach out to the poorest sections of Pakistani
Society. The BISP has come out to be the leading socio economic
future development & protection
programme of the Government of Pakistan.
